Weekly Plans are UP for the Littles!
Woo hoo! After a very hectic past couple months, I have finished the weekly assignments/planner for the Little Ones (ages 5-7). September thru December are posted and January thru May will go up soon too. (I will post the first half of the year for all 3 levels and then add the remainder of the school year)
You can view it now, and also download the supply list... which is just a few items. :) MINIMALIST of course.
The biggest thing I stress for these littles is that YOU read the suggested books on the top of the Littles page now -- Better Late Than Early by Dr. Raymond & Dorothy Moore is Step 1! I feel like we parents put so much stress to get going and get our little ones learning and doing SO much!
You won't find that here. We will be in the scripture together every single day, you will have a simple reading lesson if your kiddo is into it, you will spend time reading to your kid(s) ((Do this as much as possible! It's SO important!)), they will learn their letters and practice writing as much or as little as they are interested in doing so, they will play some learning games and then there is an elective each day-- do as much or as little as your kiddo is interested in.
We want to cultivate a love for learning-- forced studies, worksheets and memorization of boring facts are not the way to accomplish this. If your 5-7 year old isn't interested? That's ok! Don't let the pressures of "what other kids their age are learning" get to you. Read to them EVERY day. Be in scripture EVERY day. Play. Involve them in home tasks. You can always pick up the tasks that they're not interested in now down the road, try then and see how they feel.
For those that have a Little One that has maybe been in public school already or is used to a more structured/'school like' curriculum -- that's ok! We really focus on the basics at this age. Let them really get their letters and penmanship down. If your kiddo is hungry for more, let them do so in a relaxed atmosphere. You can read more than what we have on here, they can do extra copy work practice if they want, they can do additional math levels each day. Whatever the interest- they're free to do as much or as little. Main focus-- let it be fun. Cultivate and really strengthen the love for learning!
This year we did a planned September thru May schedule with holiday breaks and seasonally themed electives. Add or subtract days where needed for your family. Next year we may take the seasonal theme approach out and just do the list of weeks for people to use year round. Whatever your case-- feel free to adjust as needed to make this fit for your family!
