Can your kids really enjoy a minimalist birthday?
I talked a little bit about how we take a minimalist mindset to things like the holidays and birthdays (See that HERE!) but with our daughter's 5th birthday coming up, I figured we could give you a real life look into how we handle this topic. Biggest part being-- can kids actually enjoy a minimalist birthday?
An important note-- we haven't always been on this minimalist path that we are today. Our kids have all seen (well, except our newest baby. :) the super overdone Christmases, the massive Pinterest worthy birthday's with tons of people and gifts a plenty, the overflowing Easter baskets and more. So it's not that they enjoy this because they don't know any better. ;) They've been to the other side as well... and prefer the more minimalist approach hands down.
Take a look:
What makes a birthday so special? Time with loved ones - memories created! ♥
With all of our kiddos we do the same:
♥ Mom puts up some decorations at night after everyone has gone to bed. Nothing much- just something to make it fun and festive when they awake!
♥ Special date with just Mom & Dad on their birthday!
♥ A couple little goodies-- but not a ton of stuff.
♥ They pick out what I make for dinner, and I bake their favorite cake/dessert.
♥ A family outing! Grandparents & Uncles come, we all go to lunch & then a fun activity! Most always... to Asheville's Fun Depot!
In the area? Planning a trip to Asheville, NC?! You MUST go to Fun Depot!!!! It's the best! We really do love going there- the kids and the adults have a blast! :) We were super excited to work with their amazing team for this trip and to get to share all about it with you all! Have you been there before? Be sure to tell us about your favorite attraction there! I think all our kids are now speed demons and obsessed with the outdoor go karts!
I hope this can help you all in possibly considering a minimalist mindset when it comes to your kiddos birthdays! What are some special things your family does? We'd love to hear all about it!
xoxo,
Heidi + fam!
