Cost of Homeschooling Your Big Kid | ages 8-12

I broke down the cost for the Littles yesterday- and here is the breakdown for the Big Kids!

If you're teaching multiple ages, most of the books are the same. This makes it super minimal, easy and affordable! Check, check, check!

Here's my TOTAL cost for 2017/2018 Big Kid's Homeschool Year:

Notebook - I do a 3 subject, spiral bound notebook so there is a section for Bible journaling, Language Arts and Math | $3.00

Pencils - I bought a pack of about 30, I dish out one at a time or they all seem to disappear instantly. | $3.00

Bible - Use what you already have, use an online version (can even download on your phone and it will read to you), or purchase a simple copy for the kiddos HERE. | $0 - $6.00

The Bible Made Easy For Kids - We'll be using this along with our daily Bible study. | $10.00

The Good & The Beautiful - This is our language arts/spelling/reading/grammar curriculum (plus more really- check out their site!) and you have a few options here. You can download the PDF for the ENTIRE curriculum for FREE (You heard me! Free!)- this way you can just print any worksheets you want or have your kiddo write them work out in their journal. I do a combo of that and working them out together on our white board. You can also purchase a beautiful, super high quality book with everything done for you-- your call! | $0 - Varies by Level

The Good & The Beautiful Readers - Along with the pack above, your Big Kid needs to do 20 minutes of independent reading each day (beside our readers listed below). You can download a sample (large sample) of the readers on their website for free, order a high quality printed version, or order the digital copy of the full reader. I had planned to do the digital copy for my son, but after browsing through the sample he liked it, but asked if he could just take that time each day and spend more time reading through his Bible because he wants to read the entire thing on his own this year. Well, how could you say no to that! :) | $0 - Varies by Level

Charlotte's Web - This will be our first reader this year. Feel free to use this FREE copy, get from your local library, get an online Kindle type reader if preferred or you can order the physical copy too! | $0 - $5.00

The Story of the World Volume 1 - History is a family elective each week and we use this book for all ages. Your kids can learn dig in deeper to any areas of interest, but this will give them a broad history of the world starting from the beginning. | $10.00

The Trumpet of the Swan - This is our second reader for the year, New, Used and Kindle versions available as well as your local library. | $2.00 - $5.00

Mr. Popper's Penguins - We'll finish 2017 off with this book, again from your library, or Amazon New/Used/Kindle. | $1.00 - $5.00

The Jungle Book - We'll read through this classic from weeks 27 to 29. Free online version HERE. | $0 - $6.00

TOTAL: up to $32.00 - $75.00

So, ALL year's worth of supplies AND curriculum needs for under around $30 but definitely under $100 (unless you purchased the full print out of The Good & The Beautiful- that would add a little more depending on the level). I love it because you may already have a handful of these items in your house, you can find all the readers at your local library, you get to pick up books as you go so you don't have to purchase it all at once, AND you can really do all this for even less. Super Score-- these books will be used for multiple ages so you don't have to buy complete sets for every single kid. Win!
